Dean Grein - lyricist
Let's hear YOUR story!
6 months ago, we heard from Dean Grein, who spoke of the opportunities which had been brought to him by Verse-Chorus.
As with any great story, we couldn't wait to see what happened next!
Our Feature Story: 'Check You Out' REVISITED!
Welcomes back 'Dean F Grein'
V-C Hello again Dean, lovely to speak again with you! Could you recap on where we left you please?
DG Dang Rebecca!! Has it been 6 months already? Time flies when you are having fun!
The some day soon to be infamous Grein-Magee Collaboration is going strong! We are up to 30 songs now. Can you believe that?
I started out writing mostly Moderate Country and Blues genre. With guidance from Larry Magee, I have added two Reggae songs, two Xmas songs, some Indie/Pop, and several songs for female vocalists.
Larry's years of being in this business allows him to match up the best studio vocalists to what we are looking for in a song.
I realise how hard it is to get anywhere in the Music Industry. Many days I am Googling trying to find any interest my song.
So far, it's so good.
Larry's experience keeps me grounded whenever I express my discontent. I have joined every playlist site, spent lots of cash to have the songs evaluated, but so far, no dice.
Larry told me there's lots of money to be made off of musicians!
I would love to hear any good stories from others like me trying to bust in this business!
V-C It sounded like you had found the perfect collaborative partnership. Can you tell us what has happened since our last chat?
DG I have found the right fella for sure. And, he is a good ol' Southern Boy like me.
I have struck up several good relationships with other lyricists, etc. Some have collaborated or express an interest in Larry to help in their songs.
V-C That's fantastic to hear! How has your collaborative partnership developed?
DG In regards to my songwriting, Larry has taught me how to expand my writing capabilities to allow me to move into several different genres of music.
Larry is not just my Producer. Since I am brand new to the Music Industry, he has graciously accepted the role as my mentor too.
On a personal level, Larry has shown me the way to stay upbeat and keep moving away from the things that knock me down.
This is a tough and competitive industry, so to have someone mentoring you through it, is so valuable.
V-C That is great that you have developed into a mentoring partnership. We do encourage mentoring at Verse-Chorus, as we find there are many songwriters out there who would benefit greatly from this. Where can we hear your songs Dean?
DG All of the songs can be found at just about every internet playlist out there. My entire playlist is available right here on Verse-Chorus along with the lyrics. My Ol' Guitar is most likely my top song with most likes and plays tabulated. I sure hope a TV and Film Industry site picks it up and runs with it someday!
V-C You said at the time of our last chat, your goal was to be able to say "Hey! Did you know I wrote that song?" Do you think you are well on the way to achieving that?
DG Dang, Rebecca. That is a tough question!
I do feel at times just how tough this industry is to just to get one song recognized.
You mention above what my goal was when we spoke six months ago. The desire is still there, but the path to recognition will keep me stumbling.
As I said before, I have met and corresponded with a few others lyricists and they are a heck of a lot better than I.
These people keep me on my toes, and I feel I am writing better and better because of this.
Sorry Rebecca, I am straying from you the question you posed.
I definitely will say Yes!! I still have the same goal of hoping someday to say to everyone I have a song on the radio.
V-C Finally, do you have any advice for anyone thinking about becoming a member of Verse-Chorus or indeed a Mentor/Mentee?
FC My advice to a new person joining Verse-Chorus is, first after welcoming you to this site, I suggest spending some time at first looking what is available on here.
Remember, if you haven't already noticed, this is a great site for more than just making connections.
Take advantage of everything available here.
Start looking for a specific collaborator you are looking for with your needs. Introduce yourself.
Ask questions, you can use the 'Contact' email address as needed.
There are lots of people signed up on Verse-Chorus looking to assist in any way.
Rebecca, again I can't thank Larry enough as a mentor for me.
I had absolutely zero experience as a lyricist the day I showed him my song 'Frisky'. He embraced it and we turned it into a pretty great song. I deeply wish others will follow in my footsteps and find what they are looking for.
V-C Thank you so much Dean for taking the time to talk to us again! All the very best in future collaborations with Larry and Verse-Chorus!!
DG Thank you Verse-Chorus!
Dean Grein
A message from Andy and Rebecca
On behalf of Verse-Chorus, Andy and I are so pleased to 'revisit' Dean, to see how he is doing 6 months on from our last chat.
It is always wonderful to hear from our members, so please keep in touch!
For me, Dean's story shows how it can take just one connection on Verse-Chorus to not only find a fantastic collaborative partnership, but something much deeper. Dean and Larry have a mutually respected and creative mentorship, offering both inspiration, guidance and support.
This is what Verse-Chorus is fundamentally about. Allowing you, our talented members, to make those all important songwriting connections, providing you with great opportunities, and allowing songwriting collaboratives to provide support and encouragement to each other.
We would love to hear from you if you have either mentored or been mentored by members of Verse-Chorus.
Thank you sincerely for being with us on this journey of building strong connections, great collaborations, inspirational relationships and amazing songs!
Dean is the perfect example of when you are with Verse-Chorus, this can lead you down unexpected paths, but the realisation you don't have to do this alone!
Andy and I would like to extend our thanks to you for being such an important and highly valued part of the Verse-Chorus family.
We are always here if you need us so please get in touch.
Happy collaborating!
Andy and Rebecca
