A huge welcome to our feature article 'Check You Out'
We are back with another amazing story from one of our extremely valued and talented Verse-Chorus members.
It's time to put the kettle on, relax and enjoy Dean F Grein's fantastic story!
Welcome Dean to: 'Check You Out'
We are very happy to have this dedicated space to find out more about your successful collaborations with Verse-Chorus.
Hello there fellow members of Verse-Chorus, I'm Dean F Grein, Jr. This is my story so far ...
I would like to also take this opportunity to say hello to Verse-Chorus and thank you for all the opportunities your site allows!
My name is Dean, I am 67 years old, originally from Memphis, TN. And, I am a recent retiree from 45 years as a psychiatric/advice RN mostly in Mississippi and for the past 15 years, in California.
Wow, amazing dedication to a very worthwhile occupation! So tell us, how did you get started in writing songs?
As a child, I loved crosswords, and poetry, and anything having to do with word syntax. Later as a teen, I enjoyed Rock and Country Music with attention paid to lyrics and the meaning of the song.
I was surprised how many of my friends would have no idea what a song is saying. But then again, sometimes I had no idea what the song is saying, either!
I started dabbling years ago with lyrics by writing them down in a large notebook. Although some lyrics are over 20 years old, I do find some of them still useful in today's world.
Who have you found to collaborate with at Verse-Chorus?
I found out about Verse-Chorus through my producer, Larry Magee, a fellow member of Verse-Chorus. As I was looking through Verse-Chorus, I was in awe of his achievements. And I was right. I couldn't have found a better producer!
He immediately was able to see my style, suggested changes, and put together great songs. The kicker is he is a good ol' Texas boy!
Oh yes Larry, he's been an amazing collaborator on Verse-Chorus! Tell us about who sings your songs?
The singing heard in most of my songs have been professionally done by Sam Tuten. I love his Southern drawl and his positive contributions to my works.
Yes I think we can all agree, Sam certainly provides a great vocal to your songs! Have you written many songs?
In retirement I suddenly have time on my hands. In a matter of about 3 months, I have written 10 songs, all produced by Larry Magee. Eight of them I have already listed on Verse-Chorus. I own all rights to my songs.
Amazing, well done! Just between us, if you could pick a song, which would be your favourite?
My favourite would be a song titled “Standing in the Mississippi Rain.” You can find the full song with vocals on my profile page or you can do a search using the exact title.
Brilliant, yes it is a great song! Can you explain how you were inspired you to write this song?
Usually, I receive inspiration for writing a song from personal experience, or things I see or hear. This song is definitely from my own experiences, I am sad to say. It is also the first song ever written by me in the Blues Genre with Jeffrey “AirWalker” Davenport singing vocals. What a great gravely “bluesy” voice he has!
The song is about poor communication with a loving woman, and the consequences of ignoring her feelings. And, as a man, he learns what he has to do, which is cleanse his soul and profess his love.
What is your goal moving forward?
I have always had one goal that I am striving to achieve. It is not about money.
Believe it or not, that one goal is to be somewhere with friends or family when we hear one of my songs is played. My greatest satisfaction is to say, "Hey! Did you know I wrote that song?”
Finally, is there anything you would like to add?
Thank you to everyone at Verse-Chorus!
If you would like to hear what I have to offer, send me a message!
Thank you!
Deano
