I'm an aspiring singer with a wide vocal range and specific skill in singing in a similar style to people like Frank Sinatra, but if I were to make music myself I would pull from a range of influences such as Velvet Underground, Portishead, Serge Gainsbourg, Fiona Apple, Courtney Barnett and even more modern stuff from rap music that has more character. My main aim would be making similar stuff to the 50s and 60s style musicians but with a modern twist on it. My issue is that while I can come up with some good lines here and there I've never been able to really write full songs and certainly can't produce music. I think I've got a really great ear and overall knowledge of references to pull from, but two heads are always better than one.
Dreams and ambitions:
My dream would be to make music like Lou Reed or Frank Zappa that touches people but also has tons of character and personality. It sounds weird as I have no real history as a musician but I'm someone who would always put the art first rather than chasing a cheque. I'd far rather have the feeling of knowing that people truly feel something from my work than make something low quality just for money, because I feel that the high quality work will always get the money in the end anyway. More specifically, my dream project would be some sort of concept album revolving around the place of my heart which is South London, and using it as a chance to collaborate with artists from only South London. Something similar to Sufjan Stevens - Illinois but for here.
