Timur Koval

I’m 52 and originally from Russia. I’ve been writing music and songs all my life, and I’d love to find someone to write songs in English with. My songwriting influences include Stevie Wonder, Bill Withers, Mark Knopfler, Tom Waits, and many others. Also a few Russian songwriters you might not know. My musical tastes range from Chopin to Squarepusher.
I often come up with a tune and something I want to say. Sometimes I have a few opening lines or a chorus that feels promising. What I struggle with is turning that starting point into a complete lyric. Writing in a language that isn’t my own adds another challenge.
I love songs with a distinct voice and something worth saying, and I’d like to write songs that stay with people. To me, songs are part of our shared knowledge and culture. I’m grateful to my favourite artists for the songs that have helped me through life. I’d like my own songs to do that for someone else.
