DescriptionFor almost five decades, I have been writing songs in various genres, from Woody-Guthrie-style folk to rap and hip-hop by way of country, pop, and rock. I have also put a number of old poems to music, such as "Jabberwocky," "Oh Captain, My Captain," and "The Tiger." Songwriting neighbors in Nashville used to call me "the Croce guy," and while my voice gets compliments here in Germany, my strength is songwriting. I pay particular attention to lyrics; a Nashville studio musician who recorded several of my songs once said he didn't think there was anyone in Nashville writing better lyrics than mine. The proof is, of course, in the pudding Although I spent the 90s writing songs in Nashville, I failed to focus on the business end of the music business. Now that I have retired from over 25 years of teaching English at the university level here in Germany, I am hoping to get my music out into the public sphere. This is all the more important to me as someone who has survived a number of illnesses and would like my art--including not only songs but also word games, fiction, poetry, drawings, paintings, and photos--to survive me when my time finally comes. Last but not at all least, I am interested in not only finding homes for my finished songs but also meeting other artists to work with on our unfinished projects.
