DescriptionI grew up in a small town in Texas in the late 90s, the kind of place where everybody knew your truck before they knew your name. We had one stoplight, one Dairy Queen, and a water tower with our graduating class painted on it. Friday nights meant football under those bright lights where the whole town showed up, and Sunday mornings meant boots wiped clean for church. My childhood soundtrack was AM static and FM country, George Strait and Alan Jackson on the old Chevy radio, and my mama humming Patty Loveless while she washed dishes. Summers were long and hot. We chased fireflies in mason jars, fished in muddy stock ponds, learned to drive way too young down caliche backroads, and drank sweet tea so sweet it could rot your teeth. Life was simple but it wasn't easy. We learned early about work, about drought, about loyalty, and about how a handshake still meant something. That upbringing stuck to me. It taught me how to tell a story straight, with no frills, where love sounds like a screen door slamming and heartbreak sounds like gravel kicking up. That's the truth I still write from.
