DescriptionI'VE BEEN WRITING POETRY SINCE I WAS IN HIGH SCHOOL, BOTH FREE VERSE AND RHYMED VERSE AND HAVE ALSO BEEN TINKERING WITH SONG LYRICS AT THE SAME TIME, MOSTLY TRYING TO GET MY POEMS/LYRICS SET TO MUSIC. MY PRIMARY LYRICAL INFLUENCES ARE BOB DYLAN, LEONARD COHEN, TOM WAITS, PATTI SMITH, JONI MITCHELL , ELLIOT SMITH, Nick Drake, JUST TO NAME A FEW. AS FOR POETRY, MY PRIMARY INFLUENCES ARE THE BEATS, BUKOWSKI, WHITMAN, RIMBAUD, BLAKE, JUST TO LIST A FEW. I LISTEN TO MUSIC FROM MANY GENRES, NAMELY POP/ROCK AND MOST OF IT'S SUB-GENRES, FOLK, INDIE, BLUES, SOME COUNTRY AND OTHERS. MY LYRICS COVER A RANGE OF TOPICS AND THEMES FROM THE PERSONAL REALM TO THE SOCIAL AND OUT INTO UNIVERSAL TOPICS.
Dreams & AmbitionsI'm hoping to find a musical collaborator who has a similar passion for the art of songwriting and someone who i can work with to express musically what I'm striving for in my lyrics. Like many of the great songwriting partnerships in music history, I'd like to find someone who can bring some opposing but complimentary sensibilities to the work in the hopes of maybe pushing the songs into places I didn't think they could go. It would be great if through our collaboration we could reach places neither of us could get to on our own. I also hope that by collaborating with working musicians, we can get whatever songs we write out to the public and see if they resonate with people on a personal level. Obviously, it would be ideal to be able to one day make a living or at least supplement my income with any profits from songwriting, but my main goal now is to try to find musicians/songwriters to collaborate on turning my lyrics into songs that can be performed and shared with the public.
EquipmentAs a lyricist, I really only use a notebook or more often my computer to write down and revise lyrics that I think could one day be set to music. I have an acoustic guitar that I noodle on but I can only play enough to cover other people's songs and can't write music myself.
