DescriptionWriting stand-alone songs--that's great. But I am especially interest in finding collaborators for writing musicals for theatre. I am looking for a composer. I write lyrics and sometimes book (and occasionally some music, but I am not a trained musician).I'm finishing up a musical I collaborated on as lyricist and contributor to the script. I got the assignment by answering an online ad placed by someone seeking songwriters for her movie script she wanted to expand as s stage musical and I was chosen from among those submitting sample lyrics and she and I and a composer she found collaborated via Zoom and emails between our sessions working on our own, scene by scene, and then rewriting. That works, but if I can meet with writing partners in person, that is even better. (I live in New York City.) I can write lyrics first or set words to music if the music is composed first. Script can be done by me or you or both. Most of my shows have been musical comedy, traditional style, and mainly for family audiences (not targeted at pre-schoolers, but older kids and "all ages"), written and directed by me from when I ran children's theatre programs. But I am NOT AT ALL restricting myself to the young/family genre. I am very comfortable with Broadway-styled musicals as a fan, audience member, published reviewer, and have devoured hundreds of cast albums and books about Broadway musicals. I can share samples or write something on spec so you can see if you think we are a fit and take things from there, discussing possible projects (maybe something you've already begun). I'm very open, easy to work with, flexible, dedicated, and I am known for working quite quickly. Until recently, I was content with low-profile and educational settings, but some more recent professional-leaning experiences and responses have made me want to move on to having shows published and marketed for other people to produce. In any case, I love the collaborative process and am eager to get to work with someone experienced or a talented beginner who shares a love of musical theatre.
Dreams & AmbitionsI prefer to write musical scores for theatre, and want to truly collaborate, sharing ideas back and forth with a composer and/or co-writer of dialogue and plot ideas. Ideally, someone I can meet with face-to-face if we are in or near the same area (I live in New York City). Doing discussions and work sessions in real time via Zoom is the second-best option.
EquipmentI have a simple keyboard, but am not a trained musician and do not sight read.
