6 Hands
Six Hands
Genre: Slow, Storytelling Country
Vibe: Raw, Vulnerable, Heavy, Redemptive
Verse 1
My mama worked three jobs until the midnight oil was gone
Our sister left her classroom just to keep my boots on
She traded in her youth just to raise her brother right
Fighting her own demons in the shadows of the night
With a heavy heart and a hand that always held my own
She made damn sure that I never felt alone
We grew up on the empty side of a broken dollar bill
Learning how to survive upon a steep and rocky hill
Chorus 1
And I ran straight into the fire, fought a war inside my head
Drowned my blessings in the bottle, left a trail of what was dead
But when the sky fell total black, and I lost my mind and name
Two hands reached through the wreckage, and they pulled me from the flame
My mama built the foundation, my sister gave her youth
When I was throwing life away, they held me to the truth
Verse 2
Joined the ranks, wore the uniform, thought I’d found my way
Ten long years, a faithful wife, an eight-year-old at play
But the shadows came a-calling, and I drank away my home
When the closet emptied out, she left me all alone
His mother packed her bags, she couldn't take the heat
Left me drowning in the ashes, broken in the street
But Mama took the pieces, said, "You're still my boy"
She glued me back together when the world tried to destroy
Chorus 2
And I ran straight into the fire, fought a war inside my head
Drowned my blessings in the bottle, left a trail of what was dead
But when the sky fell total black, and I lost my mind and name
A mother's hands reached through the wreckage, pulled me from the flame
She rebuilt the foundation when I threw my life away
She held the line for her boy until the breaking of the day
Bridge
Then came my vows to a woman made of gold
The demons followed close, and the nights got freezing cold
No roof above our heads, living like a ghost
But she never packed her bags when I needed her the most
We walked through the valley, we tasted the dirt
She chose to share my shadow, she chose to share my hurt
[Guitar Solo - Slow, heavy, building into a crescendo]
Verse 3
The bottle's finally empty, the fog is clearing out
I'm standing on the pavement, learning what amends are about
Knocking on some old doors, trying to fix the broken glass
Apologizing to the ghosts living in my past
Verse 4
My boy sat beside the telephone through every wasted year
An eight-year-old just holding back a million bitter tears
I damaged him so deep, left scars that time can't hide
While he grew into a man with a heavy heart inside
He never gave up hope on a father in the dark
Patiently waiting for the day I'd find the spark
Gave up his own youth just waiting on my call
And he stood right by the gate when I finally broke the wall
Chorus 3
And I ran straight into the fire, fought a war inside my head
Drowned my blessings in the bottle, left a trail of what was dead
But when the sky fell total black, and I lost my mind and name
Six hands reached through the wreckage, and they pulled me from the flame
My mama built the foundation, my true wife walked the mud
My son stood waiting at the gate, they gave me all their blood
Outro
I ain't fully healed, but I'm standing on my feet
Sober in the daylight, walking down a brand new street
Look at my left side, look at my right
The ones who never left me are still standing in the light
But my sister's still praying, she's still fighting in the dark
Reaching for my soul, trying to keep alive the spark
Yeah, she's still trying to save me...
Mama built the foundation
True wife walked through the mud
And my boy... my boy just kept on hoping
Yeah, the storm is finally over...
I'm finally coming home.
