Verse-Chorus Lyrics

Lyrics by Jon-Yngve Bakke

Nobody Knows But Me

Genres: Country, Folk

(This song is about poet Emily Dickinson)

Verse 1
They found her pages in a drawer
Bound with ribbon, blue, folded gently
Like the dresses that she never wore to town
A hundred thousand sunsets, never seen
Never read aloud

Verse 2
I picture her beside the window frame
Watching lilacs bend — in April’s ember
Did she ever long to hear her name
On strangers’ lips, like it was a treasure?

Chorus
I wonder if she was thinking:
If a poem lives and no one reads it
Did I live at all, or was I dreaming?
Is a masterpiece a masterpiece
If it remains within the seams?
Nobody knew, nobody knows
Nobody knows but me

Verse 2
The garden gate was always open
But her footsteps never strayed
Did she trace the sky through windowpanes
Let birds carry her away?
One need not be a Chamber - to be Haunted
Or, so her own words say

Chorus
I wonder if she was thinking:
If a poem lives and no one reads it
Did I live at all, or was I dreaming?
Is a masterpiece a masterpiece
If it remains within the seams?
Nobody knew, nobody knows
Nobody knows but me

Bridge
Maybe she never needed us at all—
Maybe the words were enough — just to write them down
Maybe she never thought of legacy
Just the quiet sound—
Of ink on Paper—
Breath on Glass—
That Fireflies Flicker, oh so fast—
The Hush of Petals when they Fall—
The Slant of Light on winter afternoons—
The Buzz of a Bee in a still room

Chorus
I wonder if she was thinking:
If a poem lives and no one reads it
Did I live at all, or was I dreaming?
Is a masterpiece a masterpiece
If it remains within the seams?
Nobody knew, nobody knows
Nobody knows but me

Woke Up Dead Again

Genres: Indie

Verse 1
Woke up dead again
Same room, same bed, same static
Left the TV on
Guess I thought I’d need the noise
Tried to touch the floor
Didn’t feel a thing
Tried to call your name
But my mouth won’t sync

Pre
I keep slipping through the cracks
Through the lights, through the glass
If I leave, do I come back?
If I stay, did I ever?

Chorus
Woke up dead again
Floating but I don’t move
Breathing but I don’t prove
That I’m still here
I woke up dead again
Lying where you left me
Wonder if you’d get me
If I disappeared

Verse 2
Tried to leave a mark
Hands just slipped right through the wall
Tried to text you once
Phone still says «no signal»
Maybe I was never real
Maybe neither were you
Maybe I was just a thought
That faded out of view

Pre
I keep slipping through the cracks
Through the lights, through the glass
If I leave, do I come back?
If I stay, did I ever?

Chorus
Woke up dead again
Floating but I don’t move
Breathing but I don’t prove
That I’m still here
I woke up dead again
Lying where you left me
Wonder if you’d get me
If I disappeared

Bridge
Would you even know?
Would you even care?
Would you even check
If the air was still there?

Outro
Woke up dead again
Guess I always do
Guess I always will
Guess it doesn’t matter

Pavlov’s Puzzle

Genres: Electronic, Pop, Rock

Verse 1
I hear your name, and my breath cuts short
Don’t know why, but I still fold
There’s no reason, no command
Just a loop I don’t understand

Pre
I move before I even think
It feels as natural as a blink

Chorus
Caught in the same old game
I know better, then I go and do it anyway
Can’t resist the pull
When it calls I cave

Verse 2
I don’t think of you at all
Until something familiar sets me off
And it all comes rushing back
I don’t even notice when I crack

Pre
Somewhere between habit and need
Lies the illusion that I’m free

Chorus
Caught in the same old game
I know better, then I go and do it anyway
Can’t resist the pull
When it calls I cave

Bridge
I wait for the feeling to fade
For the past to stay behind me
But all it takes is a name
And somehow, it still finds me

Chorus
Caught in the same old game
I know better, then I go and do it anyway
Can’t resist the pull

Song Of Achilles

Genres: Indie, Folk, Singer-Songwriter

Verse 1
I was never built for breaking
But I still bruise the same
Told myself I was a fortress
Till you went and said my name

Verse 2
And I swore I was untouchable
Like grasping at the wind
But you smiled like you already knew
Where to sink the arrow in

Chorus
I let you in, I let you closer
Should’ve known, should’ve known
That even steel can rust in water
And I was skin, I was bone
For all the might a man can wield
Love can bring a man to heel
Achilles, now I see

Verse 3
I have carried the weight
Of a thousand men
Gone through hell
High water too
I conquered my demons
And searched my soul
But never met the likes of you

Chorus
I let you in, I let you closer
Should’ve known, should’ve known
That even steel can rust in water
And I was skin, I was bone
For all the might a man can wield
Love can bring a man to heel
Achilles, now I see

Bridge
I could blame the mighty gods
Curse every single star above
I could say the fault was fate
But it was just me and my heart

Chorus
I let you in, I let you closer
Should’ve known, should’ve known
That even steel can rust in water
And I was skin, I was bone
For all the might a man can wield
Love can bring a man to heel
Achilles, now I see

Outro
I was never built for breaking
But I still bruise the same
Told myself I was a fortress
Till you went and said my name

Eclipse

Genres: Folk

Verse 1
You didn’t know you held your breath
Until someone told you «breathe»
The dark’s a trickster
Making you think
It’s never gonna leave

Verse 2
You think the floor is falling
And nothing holds you up
Every thought is heavy
And every door is shut

Chorus
Some things are lost
But just for a while
Like the moon blocking out
The sun from the sky
You’re not really broken
You’re not void of light
It’s not an abyss
It’s just an eclipse

Verse 3
If there’s a blood moon rising
You stay until it fades
So, if the night feels endless
The light will come again

Chorus
Some things are lost
But just for a while
Like the moon blocking out
The sun from the sky
You’re not really broken
You’re not void of light
It’s not an abyss
It’s just an eclipse

Bridge
It’s okay to be in the dark
It’s okay to wait it out
It’s okay to be scared of it
It’s okay to feel it all…

Chorus
Some things are lost
But just for a while
Like the moon blocking out
The sun from the sky
You’re not really broken
You’re not void of light
It’s not an abyss
It’s just an eclipse

Outro
Some things are lost
But just for a while
It’s just an eclipse

All It Takes

Genres: Indie, Folk

Verse 1
I was feeling low
Under a rain cloud
Then I met someone
Who turned it all around

Pre
And it made me think
How much a single word
Can mean

Chorus
It’s like magic
To be seen
Appreciated
And believed
One person
One word
Is all it takes
To change the world

Verse 2
Walking home that night
I was full of their kindness
Like a lantern in the dark
Lighting up my brightness

Chorus
It’s like magic
To be seen
Appreciated
And believed
One person
One word
Is all it takes
To change the world

Bridge
You may not notice
The gift you give away
But someone will carry it
Long past today

Chorus
It’s like magic
To be seen
Appreciated
And believed
One person
One word
Is all it takes
To change the world

Break Easy, Die Hard

Genres: Indie

Verse 1
I gave my heart away
Thought it would be safe
She swore forever, then vanished
I was left with the whys
And a bag full of napkins and cashmere

Chorus
Hearts break easy
But we die hard
Here I’m standing
Though I fall apart
Hearts break easy
But we push on
I won’t surrender
While there’s still hope

Verse 2
I worked until my hands shook
Thought it would all add up
Instead the numbers droppped
Stood there empty-handed
With a worn-down dream and holes in my jacket

Chorus
Hearts break easy
But we die hard
Here I’m standing
Though I fall apart
Hearts break easy
But we push on
I won’t surrender
While there’s still hope

Bridge
I’ve learned we’re weaker than we think
And stronger than we believe

Chorus
Hearts break easy
But we die hard
Here I’m standing
Though I fall apart
Hearts break easy
But we push on
I won’t surrender
While there’s still hope

Outro
I won’t surrender
I won’t surrender
We don’t surrender
While there’s still hope
Even when we know better

One Coin

Genres: Indie

Verse 1
I’m over here
— holding what I believe
You’re over there
— seeing something I can’t perceive
My map, my sky
— they’re real to me
Your map, your sky
— just a different story

Pre-Chorus
We name what we see
From where we stand
It’s hard to feel
With someone else’s hands

Chorus
I see head
You see tails
It’s one coin
But not the same
Still both sides
Are the truth
I’ll lean into yours
Will you lean into mine too?

Verse 2
Your road’s on fire
Mine’s in the shade
And we don’t get why
It don’t look the same
I judge you
You judge me too
Cause we don’t know
How to stand in each other’s shoes

Chorus
I see head
You see tails
It’s one coin
But not the same
Still both sides
Are the truth
I’ll lean into yours
Will you lean into mine too?

Bridge
Like a coin
It’s how we spin it
Do it slow
Then we can see it
And maybe
That is how we heal the pain

Chorus, variation
I see head
You see tails
It’s one coin
Beautifully strange
Still both sides
Hold truth
I’ll lean in to hear you
If you’ll lean in to hear me too

Outro
One coin spins
In the light
There’s your side
And here is mine

 A hundred times
 But I can’t send them
 Not tonight

Verse 2
 You’re not ready
 I know it still
 So I hold my tongue
 And wait until

 It’s a waiting game
 I don’t move
 I don’t call
 I just wait for you
 I’m playing the waiting game

Verse 3
 The days grow longer
 The silence stays
 Sometimes I wonder
If we’ll ever find a way

Chorus
 It’s a waiting game
 I don’t move
 I don’t call
 I just wait for you
 I’m playing the waiting game

Bridge
 Maybe tomorrow
 Maybe never
 Still I’m here
 Holding space for you

 I don’t move
 I don’t call
 I just wait for you
 I’m playing the waiting game
 It’s a waiting game
 I’m playing the waiting game

I went too far
I already left a mark
I don’t wanna leave a scar

I’ll say it true
The fault is mine
I wanna make it up to you

No defence
No alibi
I own the hurt
I won’t deny

I was wrong
And I’m sorry
I’m sorry

The fault is mine
I wanna make it up to you

But I can learn
And I can grow
I’m listening now

You were right
I was wrong
And I’m sorry
I’m sorry

I’ll say it true
The fault is mine
I wanna make it up to you

Curse Or Something Worse

Genres: Indie

Verse 1
I try to be kind
But it cuts instead
I open my mouth
And the rainbow turns grey

Verse 2
I try to let in
But I push away
The connection I seek
It shatters, it breaks

Chorus
Must be a curse
Or something worse
Every time I try
It just ends in hurt
I meant it well
But it never lands
I’m left here holding
Ashes in my hands
Must be a curse
Or something worse

Verse 3
I try to make up
And I let you down
I want us to heal
But I bruise you again

Chorus
Must be a curse
Or something worse
Every time I try
It just ends in hurt
I meant it well
But it never lands
I’m left here holding
Ashes in my hands
Must be a curse
Or something worse

Bridge
Now, it’s like the fear in me
Keeps getting the best of me
I don’t know how to turn this
When my hands undo
What my heart builds

Chorus
Must be a curse
Or something worse
Every time I try
It just ends in hurt
I meant it well
But it never lands
I’m left here holding
Ashes in my hands
Must be a curse
Or something worse

 The sun sinking in
 I’ve been waiting for days

Kiss you once and I’m not ever coming down
This right here’s what memories are made of

 Windows fog easy
I hear you laugh in the dark
 Every touch
 Lights me up

This right here’s what memories are made of

Until the gold turns grey
Hold you close
While it slips away

I’m on fire while the sky burns wild
 Let’s go sunset parking

This right here’s what memories are made of
