5 songwriting tips on successfully connecting and collaborating

I would love to help you achieve your dream of becoming a successful songwriter!
Connecting and collaborating with others may sound daunting, but it doesn't need to be! Follow my tips and you will be well on your way to making those all important connections!
I know from experience how connecting with others really does help people achieve their dreams. We are always pleased to hear from our songwriting members, how we helped them find their perfect collaborator or indeed collaborators, and of course hear the amazing song which has been created as a result!
Let's find out a bit about you first!
Are you a talented:
- lyricist, looking for a musician to bring your words to life?
- singer, looking for a songwriter with the perfect song?
- Musician, looking for lyricist to convey their story?
- Producer, looking for the new hit song?
I could go on forever! The point is, to be a successful songwriter often requires individuals to combine their specific talents with others, in order to create the perfect song!
Which brings me nicely to my first tip!
Tip 1: Accept your limitations
We all have our own specific talents, but recognising and accepting our weaker areas in songwriting is not always easy for us to do. I get it, no one wants to focus on areas they are not amazing in. However, this is a must if you want to move forward with achieving your musical goals!
To be a successful songwriter you have to be prepared to reach out and grab opportunities of working with those whose talents are crucial to you achieving your ambitions. You will often find connecting with like minded people is both rewarding and enjoyable!
Tip 2: Showcase your signature style
Let's be honest, it's a competitive industry we are in. To find that perfect collaboration opportunity, you have to stand out from the crowd! You need to showcase your signature style and what makes you special!
Recognising how crucial being seen is for attracting the right person, is a must for any serious songwriter.
We see this in practice everyday. Members who showcase their work, whilst at the same time building their own songwriting profile, attract far more attention then those members who don't.
Tip 3: Accept that distance is not a limitation
Gone are the days when you were mostly reliant on making musical connections with the children at school or those people who live locally to you!
Thanks to the Worldwide Web, distance should not and is not a limitation for any songwriting partnerships! In fact, connecting with people from all over the world, opens up endless opportunities for personal development and experimentation.
We find bringing together diverse musical backgrounds can often take a song in an exciting new direction!
Tip 4: Be open to welcoming new musical adventures
Do not be afraid to try something new. Take opportunities to step out of your natural environment and explore something different. You may be surprised at what creative impact this has on your songwriting!
We hear from members who would never have thought about their song being set to a different genre of music for example. They have throughly enjoyed the new creative experience and have been amazed by the end result!
We also have members who have had successes in many different countries, for example Australia, Russia and the USA to name but a few!
Remember, the next time an opportunity arises, whether it be:
- finding a new connection in a different country
- working with musicians with different musical backgrounds
- trying a new genre of music
- experimenting in different musical instrument combinations
Whatever, the opportunity is, take a chance and see where it takes you!
Tip 5: Celebrate your successes
You've done it!
You collaborative project is over and you are excited to see what others think about your new song.
What should you do next?
It's back to showcasing, but this time your new song will take centre stage!
Attract attention by utilising any open avenues for genuine feedback and promotion opportunities.
- Create your own Social Media page and make regular posts to increase views and followers
- Upload your song to free forums and listings
- Look for promotional opportunities at radio stations, online magazines and on Social Media
- If you used a connection platform, check for opportunities to promote your song, for example featuring in an article like our Check You Out for all to see.
It is important to recognise the benefits of gaining peer review feedback, in a safe respectful environment. Be open to constructive advice, as well as all the positives comments I am sure will come your way! This may help you develop or refine your song(s) in the future!
We are enormously happy to be in the process of creating a 'Showcase Room', where our members can interact with each other regarding their songs! We will be making further announcements on this very exciting project soon!
Be proud of what you have achieved. Find ways to stand out of the crowd and get noticed!
