Hey There! I am a lyricist who has grown up surrounded by the music industry (including parents who have had record deals with EMI and multiple professional musicians in the family), and am interested in collaborating with someone able to write the music to accompany lyrics and potentially provide vocals. I am most interested in writing musical numbers in the style of mainstream releases (Hamilton, Les Mis, Book of Mormon etc.) and have one complete musical (inspired by the Borgias) and another in progress (based on Five Crime families of New York), the style varies from basic structures to more nuanced pieces and I am flexible on style if this appealed to someone. The ambition would be to eventually put music to songs (preferably as a single package/product), with vocals and then attempt to sell onwards or even try and produce in the right circumstances - if this interested you I’d be very interested in creating a sample using my existing lyrics and talking through further logistics! I work full time so this is very much a passion project but I’m not shy about putting in the hours if things work well!! If you’re interested in creating a musical and would like to try working together, please do get in touch! Dominic
Dreams and ambitions:
My achievements to date have been mostly outside of the musical sphere, though I have won a range of prizes in poetry and lyrical competitions. In my day-to-day life I work on foreign policy for the British Government. In terms of dreams, my ultimate musical ambition would be to collaborate on and write lyrics for a musical that was produced and performed in a major theatre, I have already drafted the lyrics/content for one whole musical and am half way through another. This compliments a back catalogue of approximately 200 songs written over 10 years. I hope to collaborate with someone who has a similar ambition of writing a musical, but who would bring the skill of writing the music and potentially providing vocals to compliment my lyrics (as I have no ability to compose beyond having basic tunes/melodies in mind). If you’re in this position please do get in touch and I can send you a sample!
Below is a singular sample from a musical written in 2019, if of any interest at all I would be happy to provide further lyrical samples. Excerpt from musical ‘Masquerade’ including text: There Was Only You - (sang by Umberto/ Caterina) Umberto: Caterina…Caterina… Caterina: Buona Sera Umberto... Umberto: I have something for you Caterina: Oh? Umberto: You see Caterina... (Umberto) There is only you, (Caterina) There is only me? (Umberto) Only ever you, (Caterina) Only ever me? (sarcastic) (Umberto) All of the others in twos and threes Could never replace that gentle ease Of a smile or a glance, The way that you’d prance When expressing a point of view I’ve never been known for affection that’s true, But I made my best exceptions for you As soon as the rain fell down by the pane And the windows reflected my view A thousand girls could lie by side And they’d all remind me of you A glance of your gaze The smell of your hair, If I closed my eyes I’d believe you were there In the bright summer nights And the cold autumn rains Which I can’t imagine Without you again You have grace And you are kind Not one hundred stories of malice intent Could tarnish the image I hold in my mind Of the first time we danced you put me in a trance I knew from then you had to be mine As soon as the rain fell down by the pane And the windows reflected my view A thousand girls could lie by side And they’d all remind me of you A glance of your gaze The smell of your hair, If I closed my eyes I’d believe you were there In the bright summer nights And the cold autumn rains Which I can’t imagine Without you again Umberto: So what do you say? I’ve already asked Monsignor poezano, he’s more than happy to help us marry. Will you be my wife? Caterina: Yes…yes! (Cheers then come from the townspeople)
